The Power of Imagination

We have been trying to watch less TV and play less video games lately. Hello, it is a beautiful summer day out there and we have let too many of them pass by while we are "zoned out". It was hard for a few days as we were getting over some illness, and TV is one of the best cures, or at least entertains them while they get over it.

Anyway, I have been amazed at what the mind can come up with when it has too. Little pirates on a voyage for treasure, princesses and nights on an adventure, Lego garages for all the micro machine cars, "Dark Vader" and the Island Princess living happily ever after, underwater divers in the tub, jungle explorers, school teacher and students, dentist and check up (don't forget the prize), doctor and check up (don't forget the sticker), tooth fairy and batman saving the world together, ballerina mom and construction dad (not just plain old "house" like I used to play), Olympic athletes, and chef are just a few of the many things we have seen come out of these creative minds.

It takes me back to my childhood and how much I loved to play and imagine. It makes me glad that imagination will never go out of style, or become unpopular, like a few other things from my childhood. I miss it sometimes when I see them so caught up in it. I try to jump in and play with them, but more often than not I am too busy, or when I do join in, it freaks them out, like moms aren't supposed to do that. So I usually go about life and, every once in a while, stop to listen in on their adventures of the day.

I love reading your posts. I feel like I'm sitting in your living room talking to you. I miss having you in the courtyard to sit and talk outside! I'm a little homesick right now so reading your blog is just what I needed.

I love hearing about your kids. I miss those days when life was careless and free. Entertainment was up to imagination more often than not. I loved playing outside all day, no matter how hot it was. Running through the sprinkler, going on bike rides, and getting so excited when the ice cream truck came down the drive!
It's sad, because I never see kids outside anymore. They're all inside watching tv and playing their video games.
